Kaz Mayeda
A storyboard artist serving advertising and multimedia clients from Tokyo to Amsterdam, who developed a 5th gear (best of 60 plus B/W frames in one day) in the years before Google Images and Photoshop filters. From his earliest "Giant Plug" board introducing Circuit City, his representational, non-cartoony style has been a fit for networks like ABC, CBS, and NBC wanting succinct celebrity depictions to agencies after dynamic sports action. Some familiar recent projects he's drawn for: "Go Meat" campaign/Hillshire Farm, "Eat Like An Alpha"/Oberto, Spectacle: Elvis Costello introduction/Sundance Channel, "Big Love" promos/HBO, brand spots/ABC, Call of Duty/Activision (animatics), interactive website/Lexus, catalogs/Dell computers. He's given industry talks to students at The Academy of Entertainment & Technology, Santa Monica, California State University, Northridge and UCLA. Today he draws digitally on a Cintiq using Manga Studio EX (streamlined for sequential art) to deliver boards at broadband speed.
